Low Sea
December 29, 2008 – 7:00 pm
Low Sea are a duo (Billie and Bobby D) from Galway in Ireland. Their sound is grand mixture of shoegaze and noisepop - with influences like Suicide, A R Kane, Mazzy Star and Spacemen 3 springing instantly to my mind. This is textured and layered fuzz with a heavy leaning towards atmospheric songs and a drifting ethereal guitar sound.
They’ve just added ‘The Crash’ to their streaming songs over on My Space and it has a hum and fuzz charm - a little like a blissed out take on Suicides pulsing electro sound. Elsewhere ‘Couldn’t Help Myself’ takes the Be My Baby drum beat and weaves the beats onto a tide of floating fuzz - not an obvious use of the beats and it works everso well. Some may find the vocals a little distracting as they’ve a child-like quality that takes a little getting used too - but after listening to the Low Sea for a short while I couldn’t help but be won over by their floaty sound.
