Lothar

Lothar are the first Swedish band to make an appearance on the blog. Those that read the old Lostmusic site and Indie-mp3 will know that Sweden was responsible for some of the best indiepop sounds I have had the pleasure of hearing these past few years (bands like Club 8, Acid House Kings and Irene for example) but the droney shoegaze sound was something that was less common a find amongst the Swedish gems. It seems like Lothar are trying to make amends. This 7 piece band from Stockholm are an altogether noisier proposition than their indiepop cousins. I’d say they are definitely from the Stereolab school of pop.
All three songs on My Space are worthy of a listen with ‘Malone’ being a whirling drone pop song - and just the sort of tune that gets me tapping my feet along. ‘Montgolfier’ is a delightful mix of floating female vocals and guitar fuzz - with a distinctly shoegazing sound. The 3rd and final song for streaming is ‘Whizz’ which again straddles the buzzy pop and dreamy shoegaze sound with ease. Lovely stuff.
