Air Waves
January 3, 2009 – 10:45 am
Another recent find on My Space are Air Waves, a trio from Brooklyn, New York. Air Waves seem to be the songs of one Nicole - these songs are folk tinged, without ever being ‘folky’. The songs have a simplicity that belies their charm and I’d imagine that the band kick up a storm on stage. I’d also imagine this band would find some kinship with Sheffield’s Nat Johnson - as they seem to mine a similar seam of folk traditions without being stuck in the past. Of the 5 songs for streaming on My Space ‘Shine On’ is the instant hit. But after giving the other songs time I’m more than taken with all of the tracks for streaming - whether it be the Neil Young infused ‘Keys’ or the more rounded sounding ‘Gems’. This is certainly a band to watch out for. They released an EP last year on Catbird Records which seems to be sold out. I’m off to track it down, elsewhere.
Here is a video for ‘Circle of Gnomes’:
